Good Bye Senator Kennedy

ST-398-3-63 (crop)

On Saturday, we as a nation said goodbye to Senator Ted Kennedy and the legacy of the Kennedy brothers. Senator Kennedy served in the United States Senate for over 17000 days. Senator Kennedy ran for President in 1980 but was defeated by the incumbent President Jimmy Carter. Senator Kennedy was a true liberal and made that perfectly clear through his 46 year career as US Senator.

Senator Kennedy was well known for an automobile accident which occurred in 1969 on Chappaquiddick Island. During that accident, Senator Kennedy was able to free himself but left a women by the name of Mary Jo Kopechne in the sinking vehicle and never reported it to anyone until the next day when she was found dead. This would haunt Senator Kennedy till the day he died and ultimately cost him any chance of being the President of the United States.

Senator Kennedy loved the sea, sailing, skiing, and cigars even though he said he quit when he supported his fellow colleges in the fight to ban smoking in public places.

Senator Kennedy was the brother of the Joseph Kennedy who was killed during WWII , President John F. Kennedy (assassinated), and late Senator Robert F. Kennedy (assassinated). Senator Kennedy was also the brother to five sisters. Senator Kennedy’s father Joseph Kennedy was US Ambassador to Great Britain and his mother was Rose Kennedy.

Senator Kennedy leaves three children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren behind.

In closing, though I was not a Ted Kennedy supporter, I would like to take this time to send out my condolences to the Kennedy family.

Rest Peacefully Senator Kennedy
